Close to half of Americans back a ban or sale of TikTok, CNBC survey found

A recent CNBC survey indicates that nearly half of Americans are worried about TikTok posing a national security threat, with 47% supporting either a ban on the platform or its sale to a non-Chinese company. However, opinions on the matter vary significantly based on political affiliation, age, and whether individuals use the app. While 31% of respondents oppose a ban, younger Americans are less likely to support such measures, with 48% of 18- to 34-year-olds against it. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, has initiated a campaign to rally opposition against the ban, utilizing strategies such as testimonial videos and social media hashtags. Despite legislative efforts to force ByteDance to divest from TikTok, the Senate has not yet addressed the issue.
