On Friday, September 20, Fanbase kicked off their inaugural Invest-A-Thon. Dedicated to raising money to scale and grow the platform, Fanbase invited some of our dearest friends to celebrate the mission of empowering black creators and fostering ownership in tech. Founder, Isaac Hayes III set the tone, sharing the app’s potential, by announcing the historic $15 million raised through equity crowdfunding, and now with over $2.5 million already raised.

Fanbase, has steadily grown its presence, seeking to compete with the likes of Instagram and TikTok. Hayes highlighted how Fanbase is structured to allow users not only to create and monetize content but also to own shares of the company, thus directly benefiting from the platform’s growth. Hayes emphasized how equity crowdfunding enables the democratization of investment, with a minimum investment of $399 offering 60 shares of Fanbase stock. This approach not only empowers early investors but also promotes generational wealth creation within the black community.

The Invest-A-Thon welcomed an impressive lineup of notable speakers, including Will.I.Am, Pastor Jamal Bryant, and Ebro Darden, who each highlighted the urgent need for black ownership in the tech industry. Will.I.Am, a tech entrepreneur himself, spoke on the barriers faced by black innovators when raising capital and why investing in Fanbase is essential for creating a more inclusive and representative tech ecosystem. Pastor Jamal Bryant pointed to Fanbase’s potential for long-term economic empowerment, advocating for early investment as a pathway to generational wealth for the black community. Ebro Darden, a prominent voice in entertainment and media, echoed these sentiments, calling on black creators to not only produce content but also capitalize on their cultural influence by owning the platforms that distribute it.

Additionally, Dr. Lisa Herring, director of the Propel Center, discussed the ongoing partnership between Fanbase and the Propel Center to create opportunities for HBCU students in tech and innovation. She emphasized that supporting Fanbase goes beyond financial investment; it also paves the way for future black talent to thrive in the tech industry.

One of the most memorable moments of the event came when content creator Ghetto Spider shared his story. Being the reason for Fanbase’s existence, he gained popularity through his viral Spider-Man costume videos and now, as an investor in Fanbase, he spoke about the platform’s impact on independent creators like himself.

Closing with a call to action, encouraging the audience to invest in Fanbase through startengine.com/fanbase, spread the word, and engage with the platform by creating their own Fanbase accounts.
