Tafari Young (Aka @tafaritv), knows everything about bringing a community together. So much so, that he’s even had the opportunity to meet his fellow Fanbase family in-person!
In this interview, with Fanbase, Tafari gives us a look as to what led to him downloading Fanbase in the first place. He elaborates more on the benefits of the platform, and how the app has accelerated his connections in the gaming space.
Journey to Becoming a Content Creator
Let’s take us back to the world of around 2008! Platforms such as YouTube and Facebook were starting to gain traction with the younger generation at the time. Tafari saw the idea of content creation starting to take form, and he wanted to be a part of it! “Back in middle school, YouTube was starting to emerge as a social site. You had a wall like Facebook, and we were just learning how to use “Windows Movie Maker” & “Pivot Animator” (if you know, you know). We would make slideshows, or anime music videos for our content. We were just doing the popular thing back then, and for me it just never stopped”, he shared.
Transition to Fanbase
Fanbase itself was originally founded in 2018, by Isaac Hayes III. The app mainly gained a lot of popularity around the time of the pandemic in 2020. During that time, people were dealing with many issues within the United States. This ranged from deaths related to COVID-19, and the Black Live Matter movement. Citizens of the U.S. were fed up with multiple social media platforms silencing the reality of COVID-19, and the unlawful deaths of black individuals at the hands of the police force. Other creatives on social media are specifically tired of being silenced, and having the voice/content suppressed. “Around pandemic times, I had a friend who was posting a lot of information…but he kept getting flagged for a lot of ridiculous stuff. After this, he put out a PSA for just creatives or people who want to talk in general without being censored or being taken down. He advised Fanbase was the place to be, so I decided to take a chance on it. It was everything he told me it was, and I’ve been there ever since”, he expressed. On Fanbase, we take pride in not suppressing people’s voices, and we couldn’t be happier that that inspired Tafari!
The Benefits of Fanbase
One of the main benefits that Tafari has found with Fanbase, is that it’s a platform where he can go to express his full unfiltered opinion. He’s also met other people who share similar interests as him, which makes it a fun place to start open conversations with people. Fanbase has ultimately provided authentic/long-lasting friendships in Tafari’s life, and he couldn’t be happier. “As far as IRL, me and my friends were technically the first group from Fanbase to meet up in real life.They were all people I met in audio rooms. When we all first met a couple years ago online, they saw me going to all these conventions. They expressed how they wanted to tag in. I’m used to people saying they want to go, and not show up. But then all of them bought a ticket, and next thing I know we’re fifteen people deep at Dreamcon!”, he exclaimed. Having this shared interest in anime, and gaming that they all discussed in audio rooms is really what brought this group together. They’re all still in touch today! One of the content creators in this group is actually another successful Fanbase content creator: @swiftstreamspc!
Favorite Fanbase Memory
Tafari’s group of gamers discuss an array of topics. They typically revolve around trending video games, anime/manga, comics, movies, etc. Tafari actually has a favorite memory of what the group used to do when they first started out on Fanbase. “On Fanbase, we used to do “game nights” a lot. We would do open rooms, but we would add the stream link in the audio room (so people could join in). We played “Among Us”, “Fallout”, “Overwatch”, etc.”, he explained. This is such a fun element to add to audio rooms, which definitely leads us to our new tech endeavors.
New Fanbase Features
When it comes to Fanbase, we are constantly adding new features/capabilities to the app. One of the newer ones being Fanbase Live and Exclusive Live, which is perfect for gamers. We had to ask Tafari what new feature he is looking forward to the most for Fanbase to add. “When Fanbase can incorporate stream keys into the app, that’s when the flood of gamers and geeks will come over. When people stream to multiple platforms, that’s what they use”, Tafari emphasized. We couldn’t agree more, and can’t wait to release this feature sometime in the near future.
